10 Albums in 10 Days…
This Facebook chain has been circulating recently and I thought I’d add my selections to my blog as well.
The concept is simple. Post an album a day about your ten all-time favourite albums. Those records that really made an impact in your life and are still in heavy rotation today. No need to get into great detail if you don’t want to. Just post the album cover and nominate a person each day to do the same.
Favourite Albums 08/10: The Hellacopters – Supershitty To The Max! (1996)
The Hellacopters are such an underrated band. Originally a side project for Nicke Andersson (drummer with Swedish death metal band Entombed) and Dregen (guitarist for The Backyard Babies), they were heavily influenced by MC5, Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Stooges, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Venom, Blue Cheer and Motörhead, among others… Looking back at the albums I posted about previously, you know why I love this band!
Supershitty To The Max! is the band’s first album and kicks off with “(Gotta Get Some Action) NOW!” It doesn’t let up from there. So many words can be used to describe the music. Dirty. Raw. Punk. Psychedelic. Garage. Hard rock and roll! Lots of guitars and distortion! Other notable tracks:
“Ain’t No Time”
“Spock in My Rocket”
I had tickets to their show at Richard’s On Richards in 2007. I was so disappointed when it was cancelled. I think they broke up right around this time. But The Hellacopters reunited in 2016 for the 20th anniversary of this album. They continue to play larger festivals in Europe so hopefully I get another shot at seeing them. (The Hellacopters are playing Psycho Las Vegas this year. Would love to go but I still don’t think I’m prepared to visit Trump’s Amerika.)
Here’s an amazing performance from Roskilde Festival 2017.
The cover posted here is from Sweden’s White Jazz Records. I recently got a hold of the limited edition picture disc which features the same cover. I also own a long out-of-print CD copy of the Man’s Ruin Records release.
Also recommended listening: The Hellacopters’ second album, Payin’ The Dues.
Respect the Rock!
Next, I’m nominating Chris R. I’ve discovered a lot of great music by following him. Hopefully he will post some more gems for me to check out.
