Well, that was rough. For the first time since early November, I went for a skate today. And I felt like hell.
I decided to take a different route to Stanley Park. Instead of heading to Coal Harbour (via Crab Park and Canada Place), I went the opposite direction along False Creek. (I usually return this way.) The grade is slightly more uphill as you head toward English Bay and I quickly felt the effects of the long layoff. Once I got to the entrance of Stanley Park at Coal Harbour, I decided that was far enough so I turned around and went home the same way.
My average pace was 3’51″/km, which is worse than my starting point last season. So I’ve got some work to do. It’s a good thing I didn’t try to go all the way around Stanley Park. I don’t think I would have made it.
But the spring weather was Vancouver is gorgeous today!
